Looking for a great destination for an easy weekend of Ontario snowmobiling? Check out what a Mattawa Ontario snowmobile tour has to offer. And meanwhile, if you’re interested in other Ontario snowmobile vacation destinations, check out the rest of my Ontario ride articles.

With participation up almost 30% over the past two seasons, more snowmobilers are looking for new places to go snowmobiling for a weekend getaway. Typically, locations within quick and easy trailering distance are most popular. These are the ones that welcome snowmobilers with good amenities and great lodgings. They also provide enough groomed snowmobile trails for two or three day rides where no saddle bagging is necessary.

Mattawa Ontario Snowmobile Location

Mattawa (population 2,000) is tucked away on Highway 17. It’s on the north side of Algonquin Park on the shore of the Ottawa River. You may know it as one of the stopping points along the ‘Round Algonquin Park (RAP) Tour. Mattawa is about a four-hour trailer from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). It’s also about about three hours from the Ottawa area.

Why Do A Mattawa Ontario Snowmobile Tour?

Positioned in the Laurentian Mountain Range and the Canadian Shield, Mattawa and area is a fortunate location. It always seems to get good snow conditions that come earlier and stay later than points south. Slightly off the beaten track, it’s still easy to reach by trailer or snow machine.

Mattawa offers a variety of uncrowded and under used trails. These include the 200-kilometre Voyageur Multi Use Trail System (VMUTS) and the Explorers Snow Tour. But that’s just a part of the available groomed OFSC snowmobile trails that are signed and mapped for a great weekend of snowmobiling in Ontario.

Mattawa really embraces winter and caters to snow lovers. It offers a variety of lodgings and restaurants. Most provide easy access by TOP A112A that runs beside and through town. Bonus: Check out the redeveloped Antoine Mountain. It’s fast becoming a downhill skiing magnet that’s a great reason to plan a sledding/skiing combo the whole family may enjoy.
